Regular group practice, guided by Paulo Borges: a weekly place to move from intention to habit.
The rediscovery of meditation is “the great silent revolution of the twenty-first century”. Its practice is increasingly present as a response to some of the consequences of our ways of life.
Meditation rests on the evidence that what we all seek (happiness, health, peace and well-being) depends less on external factors than on the inner state of the mind. In this approach, the essence of meditation lies in discovering and resting in the presence of awareness as the essence of all experience, outer and inner, sensory, emotional and mental.
The approach
This practice draws on Buddhist teachings, with contributions from other spiritual traditions and from neuroscientific research. Some of the exercises are set out in Paulo Borges's book Presença Plena: Uma viagem meditativa, terapêutica e filosófica pelas cinco energias da Vida (Lisbon, Farol, 2023, 2nd edition).
The fundamental benefit of meditation is the discovery of who we really are and full human flourishing, in a way of living that is more conscious, connected, intuitive and purposeful. To this are added many side benefits, such as reduced stress and anxiety, which is why meditation is increasingly present today in neuroscientific research, healthcare, education and social and professional life.
What you may find in these sessions
- Becoming familiar with simple and varied methods of meditation
- Recognising in yourself, and learning to develop, fundamental human qualities such as awareness, connection, insight and purpose
- Gradually discovering the fundamental space of being, a silent and open awareness always wider than the passing experiences that appear and disappear within it
- Gradually discovering the happiness of being, which does not depend on external circumstances
- Learning practices that open the heart to all forms of life
- Journeying towards deeper dimensions of being, where there is no separation between yourself and the world
- Experiencing all this in community, with the chance to ask questions and share experiences
What you may take into daily life
- Formal exercises and meditative methods you can keep practising at your own pace and as your time allows
- Suggestions for meditating informally, at any moment and in any situation of daily life
- The discovery that regular formal practice has benefits that naturally show themselves in every dimension of life
- A positive impact on all your activities and relationships, whether family, school, social or professional
